Having been with the

Singapore Street Festival

since 2002, I count myself

lucky to have been part of an

amazing family for almost 18

years, and that I have been on

an exciting journey alongside

many passionate and talented

people.

The Festival has grown from

strength to strength over

the years, and I am glad to

have had the opportunity to

meet and know many young

Singaporeans and hear their

inspirational stories through

the Festival.

It is my sincere wish that our

youth will continue to see

Singapore Street Festival

as an inclusive platform

to burnish their skills and

showcase their talents, and be

part of a very special group of

young men and women who

are now alumni of the Festival.

With my parliamentary

colleague Mr Melvin Yong

taking over as Patron of the

Festival, I’m sure that the

Festival will continue to fulfil

its mission and serve as one of

the largest youth programmes

in Singapore that is fully led

and driven by the community.

I would like to express my

most sincere gratitude to all

the sponsors, partners and

supporters of the Festival over

the years. I hope that you will

continue to lend your strong

support to the Festival, as well

as other worthy communityled

projects, in the future.

Lastly, I would like to say

how grateful I am to have had

the opportunity to serve the

youth community in Singapore

through this very unique

initiative.

I wish the Singapore Street

Festival, the Festival’s Founder

Ms Annie Pek and her very

capable team of mentors and

youth leaders, every success

for the years to come.

Thank you.

it is my honour to accept

the invitation to serve as the

new Patron of the Singapore

Street Festival (SSF), taking over

the baton from Ms Indranee

Rajah, and before her, Dr Vivian

Balakrishnan, now a Patron

Mentor of SSF.

SSF has had a stellar run for the

past 18 years. This year’s theme,

“The Power of Connection”, is

about unlocking our potential

through bonding with people.

Such bonds are particularly

important in the performing arts

scene. The exchange of creative

ideas between artists of different

genres, or even art forms, can

serve as a catalyst to create new

and exciting performances.

The Festival opens this year with

a perennial favourite – the Asia

Global Bellydance Competition.

I am proud that it has been a part

of our Festival for 15 years. We

are also delighted to welcome

Ms Katia Eshta, a well-known

star in the bellydance scene.

I am sure our local participants

will have an enjoyable and

edifying time watching the

legend in action.

Through the SSF, many of

our youths have built strong

friendships and bonds with

like-minded young people from

across the globe. I am glad to

hear that close to 20 students

from the Academy of Rock’s

counterpart in Shanghai will be

performing here in Singapore

this year for the very first time.

I would also like to warmly

welcome seven new youth

leaders into our family this

year. Some of them have gone

over and above their duty by

volunteering to support in other

genres besides their own fields.

Having met many of the mentors

and youth leaders from the

Festival, I have seen first-hand

their unbridled passion for what

they love to do. Many have an

unselfish desire to share their

passion and make a positive

difference in the lives of other

youths.

A big thank you to all our

sponsors, partners and

supporters of the Festival. Many

of you have been with us for

many years and your support is

what keeps the Festival going.

Finally, a big thank you to all

participants of Singapore Street

Festival 2019 for being a part

of us. It is you who make each

year’s Festival unique and

memorable.

I wish everyone a fantastic and

colourful time at the Festival.
